2012 Honda Fireblade leaked

2012 Honda Fireblade have leaked – the bike apparently being shown in a dealer in Hong Kong.
Those hoping for a radically new 'Blade might be disappointed by what seems to be a gentle evolution of the current design rather than anything radical. New wheels, redesigned fairings, 'Big Piston' Showa forks (with a matching, new rear shock) and new all-digital instruments appear to be the big changes. The engine and frame look unaltered, although of course there could be internal engine alterations – something the Blade will need if Honda hopes to catch the power levels of the latest breed of superbikes, BMW's S1000RR and Kawasaki's ZX-10R, both of which offer a whole stable-full of extra horses.
There's also little sign of the expected electronic trickery that many expected Honda to reveal on the new Blade. With its rivals all getting deeply involved with traction control and multiple settings for power outputs, most rumours had the new Blade down to be fully kitted up with the latest gizmos. But the reality appears to be that this is a more traditional superbike, where the rider has to take responsibility for his own actions. The leaked pictures show the non-ABS version of the bike, so there's a chance that the anti-lock-equipped model will also get more toys, like traction control. However, Honda is at something of a disadvantage here, as its leading rivals – the BMW and Kawasaki, which both have high-tech electronics – share the same Bosch-designed ABS and traction control technology. Since Honda doesn't use the off-the-shelf Bosch kit, it has to develop its own versions if it wants to go down that route.
However, Honda's conservative move might be sensible. By effectively extending the life of the expensive-to-develop mechanical components of the Blade it should be in a position to keep the price relatively low while still proving profitable, and recent figures show that despite its age and power deficit, the Blade remains one of the world's best-selling superbikes – suggesting that the majority of buyers think that, regardless of numbers, it has 'enough' performance for them.
The new looks, which have a hint of VFR1200F in the way the lights and air intakes come together, plus a new tank cover, side panels and seat, could be enough, along with the undoubted handling improvements from the new suspension, to give the Honda a sales boost and keep it at the top of the superbike sales charts.

Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan to ride demonstration laps at Phillip Island GP

australian gp gardner/doohan

MotoGP fans will be in for a special treat when the Australian GP rolls around the weekend of October 14th to 16th, because GP and Australian legends Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan will be riding a series of demonstration laps at the iconic Phillip Island circuit.
The day will carry extra significance for Gardner, who won the first two Australian Motorcycle Grands Prix at Phillip Island in 1989 and 1990, as he will also be joined by his 13 year-old son Remy.
Remy, who is currently competing in the 250cc Moto3 class in the Spanish Campeonato Mediterraneo de Velocidad with a Moriwaki 250 and won round 4 of this highly competitive junior championship, will be riding alongside his father with Honda’s Moto3 bike, the NSF250R.
Moto3 4-strokes will be replacing the current 125cc GP class in 2012.

It’s always a great pleasure to ride the Phillip Island circuit, it’s an enjoyable layout and really fast which I love. I enjoyed a lot of special moments of my career there,”
said the former 1987 World Champion. “I see it as a real honour to ride on my home track in front of my fans with my son, I’m expecting it to be a really special moment in my life. It’s great to be able to share a place and a sport that I am so passionate about with my family”.
And on riding side by side with his son, Gardner declared, “He’s too fast for me now so I prefer not to race. He’s cheeky and wants to prove he can beat me. It’s lucky I will be on a 1000cc and he will be on a 250cc.”

More 2012 Kawasaki colours

COLOUR schemes for many of Kawasaki's otherwise unchanged 2012 bikes have been appearing somewhat randomly over the last few days with little in the way of official fanfare.

The 1400GTR is set to appear in black or burgundy, the Ninja 250R in black or red, the S1000SX in a new black/grey scheme and the current green/black, the Z1000 is coming in orange or black, the ZX-10R in green/black or black/grey, with the ZX-6R following its lead.

Let's hope that those bikes that haven't yet appeared in their 2012 colour schemes, the like ZZR1400, are set to get more significant changes.

PERCEPTION - Reasons NOT to ride...or are there?

Rossi wants a Honda, Rumour?

Rumours from Italy suggest Rossi is looking for an independent Honda team in 2012

THE rumours have been spreading from Italy that Valentino Rossi wants an escape from the struggles at Ducati and a return to Honda.

The MotoGP holiday period has been awash with rumours that Rossi will relinquish his attempts at winning on a Ducati as the Italian has approached Honda for his own independent entry for 2012.
A possible scenario purported was a supposed swap deal between Rossi and Marco Simoncelli and Ducati to Gresini.

The Italian media sourced the information from the current factory Honda rider's - vocal - personal manager Carlo Pernat and the news was further fanned by former Gresini rider Marco Melandri, who said that Rossi had been in talks with Fausto Gresini about taking the factory-Honda place - something the Italian has now back-tracked on saying that he was 'kidding'.

The question is whether Honda would have Rossi back, after leaving the manufacturer with bad-blood to move to Yamaha. However, HRC vice-president Shuhei Nakamoto said in 2009 that Honda would be happy to take him back. The other block for the switch back to a Honda would be whether Ducati would allow Rossi to end his two-year contract early.

As renowned journalist Dennis Noyes observed on Twitter crazier things have happened, he noted that no-one expected Eddie Lawson to go to Honda in the late 80s.
Will Rossi go? Probably not, there is a greater chance that this is a way to get Ducati to abandon the carbon chassis and get the changes he requires.

Kawasaki's News

New ZZ-R1400 coming this month

OUR Japanese sources are telling us that Kawasaki will release pictures of its new ZZ-R1400 before the end of August.
Little is known about the bike, except that it's expected to be a revamped, facelifted version of the current machine rather than an entirely new model.
Exactly how the styling changes is a moot point. The distinctive side vents are a trademark feature, and probably set to stay, while the two round-section exhaust end cans, which seem rather dated compared to the strangely-shaped pipes that most modern bike sport, are also expected to stay; in Japan such pipes are considered synonymous with power in a way that under-seat or belly-mounted single exhausts simply aren't.
Of course we'll be doing our best to bring you any news and pictures of the new ZZR as soon as it arrives, but in the meantime, let us know what you think; are high-powered straight-line missiles like the ZZR and 'Busa outdated now that sharp-steering superbikes can match them in terms of power? Or is there still something special about a bike designed with top speed placed above cornering in its priority list?

Kawasaki to upgrade ER-6

EMISSIONS certificates published in America show the Kawsaki Ninja 650R – the bike we call the ER-6f – is getting some changes for 2012.
Although there are no pictures, so we don't know if it will look any different, the documents from the California Air Research Board reveal that the bike will be fractionally heavier than the old model as well as being significantly less polluting.
That could be down to something as simple as a reworked catalytic converter in the exhaust. It certainly isn't an all-new engine – the capacity remains 649cc and all the technical details on the emissions certificate are the same as the old bike's – and styling changes are unlikely given that the design was refreshed just two years ago.

Adventuring Bike's tent

Redverz Gear (formerly known as The Nomad Tent Company) is a Colorado-based outdoor gear manufacturer started by Kevin Muggleton, an ex-UK-military guy who's spent twenty years traveling the world with a motorcycle. During his time on the road, Muggleton had a series of bad travel experiences involving the bike—trying to fix it in the middle of a sandstorm, trying to keep it dry overnight during a rainstorm, fear of passersby stealing it in dicey areas—that prompted him to design a solution.
