Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan to ride demonstration laps at Phillip Island GP

australian gp gardner/doohan

MotoGP fans will be in for a special treat when the Australian GP rolls around the weekend of October 14th to 16th, because GP and Australian legends Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan will be riding a series of demonstration laps at the iconic Phillip Island circuit.
The day will carry extra significance for Gardner, who won the first two Australian Motorcycle Grands Prix at Phillip Island in 1989 and 1990, as he will also be joined by his 13 year-old son Remy.
Remy, who is currently competing in the 250cc Moto3 class in the Spanish Campeonato Mediterraneo de Velocidad with a Moriwaki 250 and won round 4 of this highly competitive junior championship, will be riding alongside his father with Honda’s Moto3 bike, the NSF250R.
Moto3 4-strokes will be replacing the current 125cc GP class in 2012.

It’s always a great pleasure to ride the Phillip Island circuit, it’s an enjoyable layout and really fast which I love. I enjoyed a lot of special moments of my career there,”
said the former 1987 World Champion. “I see it as a real honour to ride on my home track in front of my fans with my son, I’m expecting it to be a really special moment in my life. It’s great to be able to share a place and a sport that I am so passionate about with my family”.
And on riding side by side with his son, Gardner declared, “He’s too fast for me now so I prefer not to race. He’s cheeky and wants to prove he can beat me. It’s lucky I will be on a 1000cc and he will be on a 250cc.”

More 2012 Kawasaki colours

COLOUR schemes for many of Kawasaki's otherwise unchanged 2012 bikes have been appearing somewhat randomly over the last few days with little in the way of official fanfare.

The 1400GTR is set to appear in black or burgundy, the Ninja 250R in black or red, the S1000SX in a new black/grey scheme and the current green/black, the Z1000 is coming in orange or black, the ZX-10R in green/black or black/grey, with the ZX-6R following its lead.

Let's hope that those bikes that haven't yet appeared in their 2012 colour schemes, the like ZZR1400, are set to get more significant changes.

Rossi wants a Honda, Rumour?

Rumours from Italy suggest Rossi is looking for an independent Honda team in 2012

THE rumours have been spreading from Italy that Valentino Rossi wants an escape from the struggles at Ducati and a return to Honda.

The MotoGP holiday period has been awash with rumours that Rossi will relinquish his attempts at winning on a Ducati as the Italian has approached Honda for his own independent entry for 2012.
A possible scenario purported was a supposed swap deal between Rossi and Marco Simoncelli and Ducati to Gresini.

The Italian media sourced the information from the current factory Honda rider's - vocal - personal manager Carlo Pernat and the news was further fanned by former Gresini rider Marco Melandri, who said that Rossi had been in talks with Fausto Gresini about taking the factory-Honda place - something the Italian has now back-tracked on saying that he was 'kidding'.

The question is whether Honda would have Rossi back, after leaving the manufacturer with bad-blood to move to Yamaha. However, HRC vice-president Shuhei Nakamoto said in 2009 that Honda would be happy to take him back. The other block for the switch back to a Honda would be whether Ducati would allow Rossi to end his two-year contract early.

As renowned journalist Dennis Noyes observed on Twitter crazier things have happened, he noted that no-one expected Eddie Lawson to go to Honda in the late 80s.
Will Rossi go? Probably not, there is a greater chance that this is a way to get Ducati to abandon the carbon chassis and get the changes he requires.
